Program: Di Vecchio Stampo and On The Beats Tonight
Music has been my passion from a young age. In high school, I became hooked on disco, soul, and electro. I listened to the pirate radio stations in Amsterdam and started collecting maxi singles, which I bought at import record shops. It was the era of Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, Five Star, Tramaine, Val Young, Princess, and S.O.S. Band.
A friend from school had two Technics 1200s and a mixer, and that’s when I was introduced to beatmixing. It was at her place that I first heard Valerie Dore – Get Closer, though at the time I didn’t know it was an Italian production. I only learned about the Italo-Disco movement when I got a mixtape featuring Albert One – Hopes and Dreams, and I immediately thought that track was the best on the entire tape. By then, I also had my own two SLs and a mixer, and I quickly caught up, building a great collection of Italo records.
In my circle of friends, my music taste wasn’t much appreciated, but that changed when I started attending Italo parties in The Hague. I met many like-minded people, and eventually, I started DJing at some of those Italo parties. The passion and the friendships led me to contribute to Di Vecchio Stampo and On The Beats Tonight on Fantasy Radio.
